Sue is the Crime Prevention Team Leader at Christchurch City Council, Christchurch, New Zealand, and an ICA Board Director for the New Zealand region. She leads the SafeGrowth® Program, CPTED Program, the Design Out Crime Advisory Service and the Crime Prevention Forum. Her key role is to integrate safety from crime into the post-earthquake rebuild of Christchurch's central city and eastern suburbs. SafeGrowth® has become an integral component of achieving this goal. Two neighborhoods are using SafeGrowth® to improve safety outcomes for residents and more are planned. The program has strong support from police and other safety stakeholders.
Before her present role, Sue consulted to Christchurch City Council, establishing the Christchurch Safe City Officer street patrols, which successfully reduced alcohol related harms in late night entertainment precincts. Prior to that she owned several businesses, including New Zealand's largest privately owned security service provider.
On 12 October 2016 Sue was awarded a prestigious CILT Award for Public Transport Innovation in recognition of integrating CPTED in the redesign of the Christchurch Bus Interchange.
